Woman Arrested for Kissing $2.7 Million Dollar Painting
Normally a kiss as a sign of affection is a good thing, but when it happens in an art gallery on a $2.7 million dollar painting it's not only not a good thing -- it's a crime. It happened last Thursday in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Avignon, France. The woman, 30-year-old Sam Rindy, had apparently been admiring a 9'x6' bone white painting by Cy Twombly valued at over £1 million and was suddenly overcome and just had to kiss it. She's quoted as saying "The artist left this white for me." Yeah, well it's not white anymore since there's a lipstick imprint left behind. Ms. Rindy is awaiting trial on August 16 for "damage to a work of art."
How stupid can you be?

I'm confused; are you meaning:
a. dumb enough to ruin a 2.7 million dollar 9x6 bone white shock of canvas or
b. dumb enough to pay 2.7 million dollars for a 9x6 bone white shock of canvas?
Please clarify your question.

Why is a fricking bone-white painting (I presume it's basically just a blank canvas?) worth over a million dollars? That alone is bull. I think a lipstick imprint is a fine impprove over a fricking blank canvas.
Hey wait a sec *pulls a sheet of paper from the printer* here ya go! I "painted" this bone-white piece of art (read: crap)! Give ME a million bucks. On second thought, just make it half - you know, since it's only 8"x11".

For what ever reason that painting is worth 2.7 million dollars doesn't matter here the real issue is that the worlds art is no longer safe in our museums this is an extremely weird case of vandalism I give you that, but just a short time prior to this a twelve year old child put a piece of gum on a painting worth $1.5 million. If people continue to destroy works in museums then it’s only a matter of time before everything is behind thick glass where you will be unable to walk up and really appreciate the brush strokes of famous artisans like Monet and Goya.

And you just determined that now?
Let's step back in our time machine to say 1975 when Rembrandt's "The Nigh Watch" in Holland was slashed with a bread knife; or journey to 1990 when it was sprayed with acid by another deranged visitor.
Frankly it makes this woman's kiss downright a lovely addition by comparison. I'm not going to weep tonight for the loss to humanity with this particular "work" being soiled.

Everytime art is mentioned, especially in our post-post-modern art era, there's an argument about what is art and monetary worth.
Let's not get sidetracked here, this woman is a wanker for intentionally kissing a painting in a gallery. Where she knew she would get attention for it.
GoFigure Jul 29th 2007 2:01AM
She probably just needs/wants some attention.

Vandalism is vandalism even if we think the painting is a not worth much money it is still someone making a point of destroying it.

I think $2.7 million is a liltle to much for a stupid white bone canvas or whatever, in fact I think she did them a favor by imprinting her lipstick on the painting, it was in need for some COLOR!. Art is supposed to be unique, deep, or passionate, not some blank piece of SHIT on some paper, in fact I dont even appreciate "modern day" euro art, I favor creative grafeti, particularly "mexican style" or "cholo".
In conclusion, paying that much cash on that stupid piece of trash, there lucky im not the judge
=] oh, and maybe they should just hire guards or something to moniter the paintings and people... DUHH!

I wish they would have shown the painting in a before/after scene. I just don't understand why people feel the need to ruin other people's property. I guess it's just poor upbringing and jealousy. And why are so many people that blog on here so rude and ignorant? I think the world needs to go on prozac and estrogen. Settle their lives down!

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal, for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Was she blonde?

Rachael: What planet did you just drop off of? Was that supposed to be some poetic muse there? No one is interested in your quotation of someone elses words. Just admit the stupid piece of "art" work was crap. Hey! my bird just pooped at the bottom of his newly cleaned cage! And, look! Its in the image of Elvis Presley! Call the Guiness Book of World Records! We have art here!! Pssshhh

I think it's just another fine example of people having no respect for others belongings. Seriously, I'm 28, and I grew up with parents who taught me that if it wasn't yours you don't touch it, let alone ruin it. What the hell is wrong with people. This woman is an attention seeking moron. I don't care if it's considered real are by people or not, the fact is, it wasn't hers to mess with, and know she's ruined it with her nasty painted lips. Stupid woman.
Childeucharist Jul 31st 2007 7:16AM
umm the painter that did that is a retard and if they think that a canvas is woth that much then i would be rich by now by me giving them a blank canvas per week this is retarded
Michael Jul 31st 2007 7:28AM
this is the greatest thing that could have happened to both artists. Who's idea was it. What a stunt! How else could two Artists get a cover story and not have to die!
Grubah Jul 31st 2007 7:33AM
Museum is at fault for not having protective method over these painting! what if there was fire in the building? what if there was a electrical failure causing the central A/C to fails? the painting will face the same wrath !
maxrox123 Jul 31st 2007 7:39AM

Just because a painting is done in white does not mean that the canvas is plain or lacking. There are many shades of white, also, many textures of paint. How absolutely presumptive of almost EVERYONE!

Can anyone say PUBLICITY STUNT?
